Frikkie is a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of the Free State. He completed his B.Sc degree in Animal Science and Agricultural economics in 2008 and his Honours in Agricultural Economics the year after that. He obtained his M.Sc in Agricultural Economics with the title “Evaluating crop insurance as production risk management strategy” in 2014 and is currently working on his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics.
Apart from being a Council Member of IFMA, Frikkie is also a member of the Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa (AEASA) and the Golden Key International Honour Society. He is further the Science Editor for Economic affairs for Plaas Publishing (One of the largest agricultural publishers in SA) and writes popular articles for agricultural magazines on a monthly basis.
He specializes in the red meat value chain, feedlot profitability, the evaluation of the effectiveness of crop insurance, and the marketing of agricultural produce and is currently working on macroeconomic policy modeling to predict the outcome of changes in agricultural policy.
