Berhe Mekonnen Beyene

Senior Economist at International Monetary Fund

Berhe Mekonnen Beyene is a seasoned economist currently serving as a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund since August 2022. Prior experience includes roles as an Economist at The World Bank from April 2018 to August 2022, and as a National Consultant for UNDP in late 2017. Berhe's research background encompasses a position as a Researcher at the Ethiopian Development Research Institute from 2016 to 2017, and a Post Doctoral Fellow and Project Coordinator at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab from 2013 to 2016. Additional academic roles include Research Fellow at the University of Oslo from 2007 to 2012, Visiting Scholar at UC-Berkeley in 2010, Lecturer and Department Head at Mekelle University from 2005 to 2007, and Graduate Assistant at the same institution from 2001 to 2003. Berhe holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Oslo and a Master of Philosophy in Environmental and Development Economics from the same university, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Addis Ababa University.
