Diego Mesa

Deputy Division Chief at International Monetary Fund

Diego Mesa is an accomplished economist with extensive experience in energy and climate policy. Currently serving as Deputy Division Chief and Senior Climate Economist at the International Monetary Fund since September 2022, Diego also holds the position of Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy. Previously, Diego was the Minister of Energy and Mines and the Deputy Minister of Energy in Colombia from September 2018 to August 2022. Prior roles at the International Monetary Fund included Economist and Research Analyst, focusing on fiscal issues related to extractive industries. Diego's professional background also includes economics consulting at PwC, serving on the World Petroleum Council's youth council, and research positions at ECLAC and McGill University. Diego holds a Master's degree in Economics from McGill University, a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Concordia University, and completed the Harvard Environmental Economics Program.
