Magdalena Novoa serves as a Member of the Board of Directors for Landmarks Illinois since July 2023 and as an Assistant Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from August 2020. With a focus on the intersections of historic preservation and social justice, cultural heritage politics, gender, and grassroots planning in the Americas, Dr. Novoa has held leadership roles such as Co-directora at both Open House Santiago and Fundación ALDEA. As a PhD candidate in Architecture and Historic Preservation at The University of Texas at Austin until February 2024, additional experience includes managing educational initiatives in various government and nonprofit organizations, such as the Head of Education at the Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales de Chile. Academic credentials include an MA with distinction from the University of the Arts London and undergraduate degrees in Fine Arts and Pedagogy from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad Gabriela Mistral, respectively.
