Jane MacFarlane

Director at LYT.

Jane Macfarlane is the current director at LYT. Prior to that, they were the Executive Director of the Sustainable Transportation Initiative at Berkeley Lab from September 2016 to September 2017. There, they worked with the Department of Energy to manage the SMART Mobility program, which focuses on reducing the energy used by the transportation sector. Before that, they were the Chief Scientist and Head of Research at HERE from March 2011 to August 2016. In that role, they led a team of researchers focused on geospatial mapping and location-based services. Her personal research focused on analyzing vehicle CanBus sensor data along with GPS data from connected cars, with an eye towards providing drivers with real-time safety information, improved map information and contextual maps for navigational decision making. As the Chief Scientist for HERE Technologies and a member of the CTO Office, they were deeply involved in the development of the future strategy of HERE Technologies. This included the development of technologies that would provide the foundation of automated vehicles, drone logistics, and advanced contextual mobility solutions.

Jane MacFarlane completed their PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Jane also holds a BA in Math/System Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
