Mr Hay has a strong background and breadth of experience in business, corporate law, finance and investment banking advisory, with particular expertise in relation to mergers and acquisitions. He was a partner of the legal firm Freehills until 2005, where he served as Chief Executive Officer from 2000. Before that he had been the Chairman of the Melbourne firm's Board for a number of years, and was the senior partner in the mergers and acquisitions practice. Mr Hay has extensive experience in corporate strategy, corporate governance matters, and corporate systems including due diligence, continuous disclosure, risk management and compliance systems. He is currently Chairman of Newcrest Mining and Acting Chairman of Vicinity Centres. Mr Hay is a former director on the boards of GUD Holdings, Myer, ANZ Bank, and Alumina.
