John Bates

John Bates is a seasoned technology leader with extensive experience in retail operations and management. Currently serving as Technology Director at Morrisons, John is accountable for technology delivery, strategic planning, and governance teams, focusing on growth and productivity enhancements. Previous roles at Morrisons include Chief Technology Officer and Head of Technology, where John successfully managed significant cost reductions and strategic change programs across various business areas. As Owner of Chapel Gallery and former Programme Manager at Poundworld Retail Ltd, John has also led system replacements and technology implementations. Earlier experience includes positions at Scarborough Building Society and ExxonMobil, where John managed large-scale projects and global implementations. John holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from the University of York and completed a Management Programme at London Business School.
