After pursuing his education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, proud Naperville native and Naperville North High School graduate Ian Holzhauer returned to his hometown in 2014 to continue his legal career and raise his family. He immediately began building a legacy of public service, getting involved with service clubs, business groups, nonprofit organizations and his church. First elected to the City Council in 2021, Holzhauer aims to promote respect in our community, protect our economy and keep Naperville the best place in America to raise a family.
Holzhauer earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Florida in 2004, a J.D. from Georgetown University in 2007 and served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 2007 to 2014. He serves as Partner at the Naperville law firm of Nagle, Obarski & Holzhauer, P.C., where he began as an associate in 2015.
Holzhauer served as Chairman of the Board of the 1,100-member Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce from 2020-21, helping the organization weather the COVID-19 pandemic and rebound to build a larger membership base. He was recognized in 2017 as one of the Chamber’s “Four Under 40” and chaired the Young Professionals Network for the Chamber in 2018. He now is a member of the board of Naperville Responds for Veterans, providing pro bono legal services, and he previously served as a board member for NCTV-17 and Chair of the Trustees at First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Holzhauer thinks leadership is about giving people something to believe that is bigger than themselves, and he wants people to believe in Naperville. He aims to build consensus among the Council to protect the wonderful community he calls home and to work on projects, including extending the Riverwalk south toward the Edward Hospital campus.
Councilman Holzhauer serves on the Legislative Committee of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference and as a liaison to the Riverwalk Commission.
Councilman Holzhauer’s current term expires in 2025.
