Sydney O'Shaughnessy

Sydney O'Shaughnessy is a Communications & Media Specialist currently working at The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine since September 2022. With a background in communications and media, Sydney has also served as a Communications Specialist at the U.S. Department of Energy, where support was provided to enhance social and digital media strategies. Previous roles include Social Media Consultant at Xia & Sydney Publishing Inc., Communications Associate at the Environmental and Energy Study Institute, and Editorial Coordinator at AAAS. Sydney’s experience extends to teaching as an 8th Grade STEM Teacher at Success Academy Charter Schools and serving as a Biology Research Assistant at Ithaca College. As a co-founder and Social Media Strategist for Alluvian, an online environmental publication, Sydney has combined a passion for environmental issues with communication skills. Educational qualifications include a Master of Arts in Media and Strategic Communication from The George Washington University and dual Bachelor's degrees in Environmental Science and Journalism from Ithaca College.
