Lauren Tomkinson

Aspirations in Computing Award Recognitions Program Specialist at National Center for Women in IT - NCEIT

As the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award Recognitions Program Specialist, Lauren analyzes and creates processes necessary for program operation, with a particular focus on capacity-growing, sustainable development. Between communications and prize distribution, she manages strategies and workflows that annually reach more than 4,000 women, genderqueer, or non-binary students, and more than 1,500 educators.

Lauren values her three years volunteering as an adult mentor with Peers Building Justice, an after school youth program serving middle and high school students in Boulder Valley School District. She is humbled and honored to be in community and be in solidarity with the youth-led movement for social justice. Prior to NCWIT, Lauren managed a research center within the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research, where she facilitated collaborative hydrologic and earth science research initiatives between CU faculty, graduate students, and scientists in the U.S. Geological Survey. Over her four years in this role, she directly contributed to securing nearly $2 million in research grant funding for CU. She holds a BA in Evolutionary Biology from Harvard College.
