Roger entered private cardiology practice in 1976. He has consulted at all the major private hospitals in Brisbane but especially at the St. Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital where he was a member of the team that set up the first private cardiac catheter facility in Brisbane. He has been a VMO to the Greenslopes Repatriation Hospital (now Greenslopes Private) since 1977 and is presently the senior VMO in Cardiology at the Royal Brisbane and Womens’ Hospital (also a VMO since 1977). He is presently a Senior Lecturer in Medicine (Clinical) University of Queensland.
Roger first became involved with the Heart Foundation in 1982 as a member of the then Medical Advisory Committee. He joined the Qld Division Board as a Director in 1996. He became President (Queensland Division) in 2006 and again on 2013. As a consequence, he was a Director of the National Board. He also served on the Cardiovascular Health Advisory Committee. In 2019 he was awarded an AM Order of Australia and the Kempson Maddox award for his significant contribution to the National Heart Foundation.
