Charles Cannon currently serves as the Director of Forest and Tree Research at the National Parks Board, a position held since September 2024, where a new program in tropical forest ecology is being led. Prior to this, Charles was the Senior Scientist in Ecological Evolution and the Director of the Center for Tree Science at The Morton Arboretum from June 2015 to September 2024. Additional experience includes serving as an Associate Professor at Texas Tech University from 2008 to June 2015 and a Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2007 to December 2012. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Botany/Plant Biology from Duke University (1994-2000) and an AB magna cum laude in Physical and Biological Anthropology from Harvard University (1984-1989).
