Marissa J. Levine

Board Member at National Safety Council

Dr. Levine teaches leadership and focuses on population health improvement. She recently completed 16 years of state government work, most recently serving as the Virginia health commissioner and leading the Virginia Department of Health. As commissioner, Dr. Levine led the effort to create an action framework to enhance the conditions for equitable population health and wellbeing, called Virginia’s Plan for Well-Being. Dr. Levine previously held deputy commissioner and local health department positions with VDH. She is a board-certified family physician with 16 years of medical practice experience. She received a masters of public health degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y., and she completed family practice residency training at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
