Shawn is a cyber-security professional and angel investor who gained national attention for his involvement in tracking down a Chinese cyber-espionage ring which was later chronicled in Time magazine. Carpenter has spent his career leading some of the most sensitive security engagements across military, government, and corporate environments. During his tenure at Netwitness (acquired by EMC) and as Chief Technical Analyst at iSIGHT Partners (acquired by FireEye), Shawn continued to earn a reputation for solving bleeding-edge cross-domain issues. Earlier in his career, Shawn worked as a principal security analyst for the Justice Department, the Cyber Threat Analysis Division (CTAD), Diplomatic Security, of the State Department, and was a member of the Information Design Assurance Red Team (IDART) for the US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Center working in network intrusion detection, network security infrastructure design, threat intelligence, system/network forensics, malware analysis, and collaborative research.
While at Netwitness, Shawn led a team of security professionals in detecting, hunting, and evicting sophisticated adversaries from enterprise networks, worked in network intrusion investigations, network traffic analysis, cyber forensics, cyber security policy, audit compliance, malicious code analysis, cyber security threat assessments, and network penetration testing.
