Leo has had a wide-ranging career often involved with businesses or industries in startup mode or navigating major changes. Just after college he worked with the Solar Energy Research Institute – predecessor to the National Renewable Energy Lab on projects related to energy consumption in large commercial and industrial buildings and spent a few years practicing architecture and designing energy efficient buildings.
A detour to an MBA then lead to a series of adventures ranging from starting passenger ferry service between NYC and NJ, growing a specialty cheese business on a small island off the south coast of Australia, a stint in the Industrial/Automotive battery business, the startup of the first main stream e-book publishing business and more recently the development of institutional scale wood fired CHP facilities.
Leo now consults from his home office in Sandwich.
Leo holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, a Masters of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts major in Architecture from Washington University in Saint Louis.
Leo serves on the Board of the Squam Lakes Conservation Trust and has previously served as a Selectman in the town of Sandwich and a member of the Sandwich Planning Board.
Leo and his wife Kathryn Field, a professional artist, are year-round residents of Sandwich. Kathryn and Leo frequently enjoy kayaking on nearby Squaw Cove, hiking Doublehead and Rattlesnake and the odd snowshoe or cross-country ski when the snow flies, all of which are conveniently accessible directly from their door. In his spare time Leo enjoys carpentry having some years ago completed the renovation of a classic circa 1792 center chimney colonial and loves exploring the woods to discover cellar holes, stone walls and abandoned roads.
