Lilian Weng

Lilian Weng is a prominent figure in the field of AI research and safety, currently serving as VP of Research, Safety at OpenAI since February 2018. Weng leads a team focused on AI safety and has also built and led the Applied AI Research team, tackling various advanced research challenges in large deep learning models. Prior experience includes a role as Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Affirm, Inc., where model improvement and production implementation were key responsibilities. Weng's background also features software engineering and data science roles at Dropbox and internships at Facebook, emphasizing data analysis and machine learning applications. Academically, Weng holds a Ph.D. in Complex Systems and Networks from Indiana University Bloomington and bachelor's degrees in Information Systems and Computer Science from Peking University and The University of Hong Kong.
