Sami Kotkamo has been a Senior Chemist at Paptic since December 2015. Prior to that, they worked as a Researcher at Tampere University of Technology from February 2008 to December 2015. In their role as a researcher, Sami worked on projects in co-operation with companies mainly focused on polymers made from renewable resources (e.g. PLA). Sami also used PE, PP and PET as reference materials. Extrusion coating and laminating on paperboard were the most important methods, additionally dispersion coating was used. Characterisation of coatings (runnability, adhesion, sealability and various barrier properties; IR, DSC) and analysing of results were essential parts of the work. Sami also acquired background information, improved processing and characterisation techniques due to continuously appearing new compounds and guided Master’s theses. Results led to several patents. Sami helped other researchers in article writing.
Sami Kotkamo obtained a licentiate degree in polymer chemistry from the University of Helsinki. They then went on to obtain a master's degree in chemistry from the same school.
