Josh Blanton

Josh Blanton joined the firm in 2018 and focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Before practicing law, Josh completed a dual degree program and earned a B.A. in political science and a B.S. in civil engineering from North Carolina State University. He later attended Duke University where he earned an M.S. in electrical and computer engineering, concurrent with a J.D. from the University’s school of law.

Josh developed a diverse perspective of the legal system during law school, first traveling to Lisbon, Portugal as an intellectual property intern for one of the country’s largest law firms. There, he was introduced to areas such as cross-border patent protection, trademark infringement and unfair competition. Next, Josh headed to Geneva, Switzerland where he deepened his knowledge of international law through direct contact with the United Nations Office in Geneva, international lawyers, and experts in international and comparative law.

Josh has also gained valuable legal experience in the U.S., beginning with an internship at technology start-up K4Connect. This role allowed him to collaborate with inventors, developers and even outside patent counsel on the company’s current IP strategy, along with helping to identify new technical areas and markets for future expansion. Additionally, Josh was exposed to the more complex areas of IP, including patent analytics and due diligence review for corporate transactions. Today, he supports a much larger and diverse clientele, ranging from companies in communications and software to electronics and semiconductors. He brings a broad and unique outlook to his growing IP practice.
