As a technical advisor, Kun works alongside the firm’s attorneys to protect the intellectual property of clients. He has deep experience working with transportation and medical device technologies and focuses on drafting patent applications and patent prosecution in those technical areas. Kun combines his technical skills and his sharp ability to analyze and identify critical components to help his clients gain an edge in their IP cases.
Kun was heavily involved in researching and developing complex technologies throughout his undergraduate and graduate studies. He has worked on research projects building neural networks to assign semantic labels to temperature-fused maps generated by sensors on customized drones; creating systems to help identify anomalies in clinical heart sound episodes to better detect signs of heart disease; and designing virtual reality teleoperation scenarios using Unity engine and HTC Vive to collect human action data.
Kun’s research has been published by the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE), International Conference on Signal Processing (ICSP) and International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, BioMedical Engineering and Informatics (CISP-BMEI).
Ready for a new challenge, Kun transitioned from research to intellectual property law. After receiving his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California San Diego, Kun worked at an IP law firm in Boston, drafting patent applications and responding to USPTO Office Actions. He draws on the technical insight he gained working on autonomous technology during his tenure there to protect clients’ patent rights and intellectual property in the transportation sector.
Kun never shies away from complex work. Instead, he leverages his research skills and makes time to truly understand the innovations and inventions his clients entrust him with. His programming experience influences his detail-oriented approach to patent drafting and applications. Ultimately, Kun hopes to fully fuse his technical experience and passion for helping clients by attending law school and passing the USPTO bar exam. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, gardening and volunteering.
