Communication:

We believe communication is key to a successful project so we often work closely with our clients’ stakeholders. For example, project managers and construction crews. It is not uncommon for us to attend pre-construction meetings to ensure that our design intent is understood by all, installation risks that we have identified are adequately communicated, and everyone has the information needed to kick off the project successfully. 

Communicating effectively isn’t just verbal or written though, it is also the plans themselves. The plans are ultimately the communication method between the design team and the crews in the field. They’re executing the nuts and bolts drawn on the page and if that communication (i.e the construction plan sets) isn’t clear or detailed, it often creates confusion to them, the PM, the foreman, etc and cascades into other issues. We’ve been there and lived through those challenges. Its why we design the way we do. 

Simplicity

By focusing on making the plans simple, it makes that communication easier and more effective. And by simple we don’t mean basic; our plans are anything but. To us, simple is ultimately an optimized design that removes unnecessary complexity. 

Its about keeping row lengths consistent, repeating string layouts throughout an array, specing equipment that is quality and easy to install, and minimizing the number of different SKUs, just to name a few. 

It is about including the right amount of detail to make it easy for the crew to read at a glance and execute without being burdened with information they don’t need. Too much information just becomes noise and isn’t helpful. We include details such as distance from the roof edge to the first attachment point, 3D renderings that show large assemblies, detailed subassemblies in the BOMs, site topography, etc. 

It is about being mindful of equipment locations and how it effects construction workflows. Designing to allow for concurrent work to be completed by electrical and mechanical crews, material flow to and around the roof without impeding installation, future serviceability, etc. 

What This Ultimately Results in For You

By simplifying designs and including all details necessary for the crews to execute the work, we believe you benefit in a few ways. 

1) Faster installations. Your crews can get on and off the job on schedule with minimal downtime. 
2) Easier to scale up crews and subcontractors. By including the level of detail that we do, it allows for non-solar crews from parallel trades and industries (e.g. electricians, laborers, roofers, etc) to be spun up rapidly and become efficient solar installers.
3) Derisks the project. You have our team behind you that has extensive commercial solar experience. Lets just say we’ve seem some things over the years and know what to watch out for. 
4) Precise material procurement. You’ll know exactly what materials you need down to the literal nuts and bolts so no runs to the supply house mid-construction.
5) Lower procurement costs. We have established relationships with select distributors and manufacturers, may of which offer preferential or pre-negotiated pricing to our clients.
