Dick is past President and Chief Executive Officer of Dignity Health, a healthcare system comprised of 45 acute care hospitals and medical groups in Arizona, California and Nevada. Under Dick’s leadership, Dignity grew from 12 loosely affiliated hospitals into the largest provider of health care services in California. Before joining Dignity, he was Executive Vice President of the Allina Health System, Minneapolis, an integrated delivery system of 29 hospitals and medical groups, which he helped create.
Dick has a long history of board service in business, community and healthcare organizations at the local, state and national level. He has served as Chair of the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region Board and currently is President of the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Foundation Board. Dick has been a member of the American Hospital Association Board of Directors, and served on the boards of the California Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Olympic Committee for Northern California and the Boys and Girls Club of Placer. He was a founding board member of Intuitive Surgical Inc., the world leader in robotic surgical systems.
Dick is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, earned a master’s degree in counseling from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in health care management from the University of Minnesota. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management program.
