Chair, Department Of Music at Presbyterian College

Richard Thomas D.M.A. serves as the Chair of the Department of Music at Presbyterian College since August 2007 and is a full professor with tenure, also coordinating string studies. In addition, Richard has been a cello instructor for the Laurens County Academy of Music at Presbyterian College since September 2007. The teaching experience includes roles as adjunct faculty at Lander University and Anderson University (SC), as well as previous appointments at University of North Carolina Wilmington, South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, Universidad del Valle (CO), Universidad del Cauca, and Conservatorio Nacional de Musica. Richard holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance and Musicology from the University of South Carolina, a Master's in Cello Performance and Music History from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor's in Cello Performance from DePauw University, along with graduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Temple University.
