He graduated with distinction from the Department of Trade of the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw, as well as from his post-graduate studies in macroeconomic at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (1980/1981 and 1988/1989) and the University of Zurich (1984). He has many years of experience in the banking sector. He has acted in the management boards of Polish banks for many years, recently as President of the Management Board of BRE Bank S.A., Vice-President of the Management Board of PKO BP SA, and formerly of PBG S.A. in Łódź. He created a new model of the retail Internet bank, one offering break-throughs in innovation and successfully launched it in Poland (mBank). He acted in the supervisory boards of well-established financial institutions, including BRE Bank Hipoteczny, Intermarket Bank AG, BRE Wealth Management, Hochtief Construction AG, etc. At the moment, he runs a strategic advisory company called SL Consulting.
