MacKenzie Sorensen

Mackenzie Sorensen is a skilled professional in the fields of geology and mineral processing, currently serving as Principal Advisor Strategy and Performance and Senior Mineralogist at Rio Tinto since November 2020. Mackenzie has extensive experience managing projects and leading teams while integrating mine and mill data to innovate mineralogical analysis. Prior to this role, experience included positions as a Metallurgical Engineer and Geologist at Rio Tinto Kennecott, and as a Geologist at Tetra Tech, focusing on mapping and modeling tasks. Previous roles also encompassed internships at Freeport-McMoRan and Barrick Gold Corporation, as well as research assistantships and teaching assistant positions while completing academic studies. Mackenzie holds a Master of Engineering in Mineral Processing from the University of Arizona and a B.S. in Geology from the University of Georgia.
