Samuel Escobar Gil is an experienced mining engineering professional currently serving as an Underground Mine Planning Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer at Rio Tinto since January 2022. Previously, Samuel worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Mining Engineering Department at West Virginia University from January 2020 to December 2021 and completed an internship as a Geotechnical Engineer at Rio Tinto in the summer of 2021. Earlier career experience includes the role of Mining Engineer EIT at Zijin-Continental Gold, where responsibilities included supervising labor and managing cost-related information, as well as a work study focused on health and safety in an artisanal underground gold mine at Aris Mining Marmato. Samuel holds a Master of Science in Mining Engineering from West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Science in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
