Sebastián Fernández Ortiz is a seasoned geotechnical and water resources professional with extensive experience in the mining and environmental sectors. Currently serving as Principal Advisor Geotechnical - Tailings and Dams at Rio Tinto since September 2023, Sebastián has a robust background including roles such as Principal Geotechnical Engineer at Vale and Senior Engineer at Hatch. With a Master's degree in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering from the University of Alberta and advanced studies in Hydrogeology from Technische Universität Darmstadt, Sebastián specializes in hydrogeochemical studies, water resource strategies, and tailings dam management.
