Shri K. Thanu Pillai holds a graduate degree in Arts from the University of Madras and another in Commerce from the University of Kerala.
He joined State Bank of Travancore (erstwhile associate of State Bank of India) in 1958. He undertook a variety of assignments, in which he applied his rich operational experience and inputs gained through training from prestigious institutes such as Bankers Training College of the Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai, National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), Pune, and State Bank Staff College and Administrative Staff College, Hyderabad.
In February 1992, he was appointed as the Managing Director of State Bank of Hyderabad, the largest among the associates of State Bank of India. He retired from service in May 1995.
Currently, he holds the position of Chairman at Sagar Cements. He joined the Board of Sagar Cements as a Non-executive Director in 1997.
