Emeran Mayer, MD, is a gastroenterologist, neuroscientist, and the author of The Mind-Gut Connection and The Gut Immune Connection. He is the executive director of the G. Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress and Resilience at UCLA and the founding director of the UCLA Microbiome Center.
Dr. Mayer has a career long interest in clinical and research aspects of brain gut disorders, including IBS for the past forty years, with longstanding support of his research by the NIH. His current research efforts focus on the role of brain gut microbiome interactions in a wide range of disorders, including inflammatory and functional GI disorders, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and autism spectrum disorders.
