Kurt Marek is an accomplished leader in research development, currently serving as the Chief Research Development Officer at Sanford Burnham Prebys since August 2024. Previously, Kurt held multiple key positions at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies from February 2018 to August 2024, including Executive Director and Senior Director of Grants Development. At the National Institutes of Health, Kurt worked from October 2011 to August 2018 as the Deputy Director of the Office of Translational Alliances and Coordination and as a Program Director and SBIR Coordinator. Kurt also contributed to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow from 2010 to 2011 and was involved in research at the University of California, San Diego as an Assistant Project Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow from 2004 to July 2010. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Francisco, along with a BS in Biology and a BA in Humanities from UC San Diego, both completed in 2004.
