Leah Lopez Schmalz

President at Save the Sound

Leah Lopez Schmalz is an accomplished environmental lawyer and leader with extensive experience in environmental advocacy and organizational management. Currently serving as President at Save the Sound since October 2022, Leah previously held numerous roles within the Connecticut Fund for the Environment/Save the Sound from September 2001 to October 2022, including Chief Program Officer, Program Director, and Director of Legislative and Legal Affairs. Leah began their legal career as a Staff Attorney at Save the Sound. Leah holds a Juris Doctor degree in Environmental Law from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, obtained between 1997 and 2000, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial and Product Design from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from September 1992 to May 1996.
