Rudi van Nieuwenhove

Rudi Van Nieuwenhove is a seasoned professional in the field of nuclear science and engineering, currently serving as the Head of Section for Experimental Facilities, Instrumentation & Control and Project Manager at SCK-CEN since April 2018. Additionally, Rudi holds the position of Chief Scientist at the Institute for Energy Technology, contributing to research projects related to fuel, materials, and instrument developments in the Halden reactor. Between 2003 and 2016 at the Institute for Energy Technology, Rudi held the roles of Department Head of Research and Development and Principal Scientist, overseeing in-core experiments and supporting the design of experimental rigs. Prior experience includes Section Head of Reactor Instrumentation and researcher roles at SCK-CEN, where Rudi focused on corrosion, instrumentation optimization, and various EU nuclear fusion projects. Rudi began a research career studying plasma-wall interactions at Forschungszentrum Juelich from 1982 to 1995. Rudi earned a PhD in Physics with a specialization in Theoretical Particle Physics from KU Leuven in 1981.
