Samantha Shokin is a grant writer and development associate at Sefaria. Prior to their current position, they served as project manager for the European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative (ESJF), a role in which they oversaw the second phase of a multi-year, multimillion-euro pilot project funded by the European Union.
Shokin's key accomplishments while at ESJF include leading a team of historians and technical officers in the completion of drone surveys and data processing of 1,700+ Jewish cemetery sites in seven countries, culminating in the development of an open-access database featuring historical overviews and 3D models - the first of its kind. Samantha also collaborated with a diverse array of stakeholders including embassies, diplomatic missions, Jewish communities, and prospective donors to coordinate and promote ESJF activities in multiple project countries. Lastly, they co-wrote and edited an extensive guide to preservation initiatives from across nine European countries, titled "Catalogue of Best Practices for Jewish Cemetery Preservation."
Samantha Shokin has a MA in Arts Administration from Baruch College and a BA in Writing and Cultural Studies (Individualized Concentration) from New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Samantha also went to Stuyvesant High School.
