Joseph O. Serra began his career in the automotive industry in 1982, when he teamed up with his father to help grow the organization. Under his leadership, Al Serra Chevrolet grew into one of the largest volume Chevrolet dealerships in the nation. Joe was named Chief Operating Officer for Charlotte, North Carolina based Saturn Retail Enterprises in 1998. In January of 2000, Joe returned back to Michigan and purchased Serra Automotive from his father and several other shareholders. Today, Serra Automotive ranks among the top ten privately-held automotive groups in the nation and employs over 2,300 associates.
Joe is the recipient of the General Motors Dealer of the Year award, and one of only six dealers in the nation to earn this award every year since its inception. In the November 2009 issue of Automotive News, he was named to the publication’s list of 50 Visionary Dealers who helped build the auto industry. He is also proud to have served as President of the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association in 1996, President of the Detroit Automobile Dealers Association in 2007, and Chairman of the North American International Auto Show in 2009.
Joe received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Management from Albion College, and a certificate in Strategic Marketing from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a board member of McLaren Health Care Corporation (January 2018 to present) and a proud supporter of Orchards Children's Services.
