Joseph Martens

Biology Teacher at SHADY SIDE ACADEMY

Joseph Martens is an experienced educator and researcher specializing in biology and biochemistry. Currently serving as a Biology Teacher at Shady Side Academy since August 2014, Joseph previously held the position of Visiting Assistant Professor at Hamilton College and was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh from September 2005 to April 2013. Joseph's research focuses on the transcription of non-coding DNA and its implications for gene regulation and chromatin architecture, as well as the dynamics of chromatin during transcription and its effects on gene expression. Joseph completed a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Western Ontario and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Waterloo. Prior to academic roles, Joseph was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School from 1999 to 2005.
