Suzanne S. Obenshain lives just north of Harrisonburg near Lacey Spring and has served as a director from Rockingham County since 2016. She currently serves on the Executive Committee and the Finance Committee.
Suzanne is a small-business owner who has been heavily involved in the Shenandoah Valley since moving here over 30 years ago. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where she received a degree in history and minored in business. Suzanne is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and holds a Board Leadership Certificate through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
A Powhatan County native, Suzanne has lived in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County for more than 30 years. In that span, she has and continues to serve her community through many state and local organizations, including as a member of the Commonwealth Council on Aging; the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors; United Way of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Board of Directors; Sunnyside Retirement Community Board of Directors; the Harrisonburg Republican Committee, as chairwoman and treasurer; Harrisonburg Electoral Board as its secretary and as chair; and Generations Crossing, as a founding board member of the adult and child day care facility in Harrisonburg and as a member and treasurer of the Spotswood Garden Club and president of the Spotswood Garden Foundation.
A licensed nursing home administrator, Suzanne attends Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. She and her husband, current Virginia State Sen. Mark Obenshain, have two grown children, Tucker and Sam.
