Dong Chen

Dong Chen is a highly experienced data scientist currently serving as a Staff Data Scientist at SoFi since April 2024, focusing on student loan and credit card underwriting. Prior to this, Dong was with Barclays from October 2017 to December 2023, where roles included VP, Managing Data Scientist, leading the development of machine learning models for various credit and lending applications, and AVP, Senior Data Scientist, developing advanced fraud risk models. Previous experience also includes managing risk at American Express and conducting research at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, earning a Ph.D. in Physics and a Master's in Computer Science with a focus on machine learning and NLP. Early academic work included contributions to network analysis and simulation techniques.
