George Kypuros joined Southwest Key’s board of directors in April 2021.
Mr. Kypuros served over 34 years as the Chief Executive Officer of United Medical Centers, a private nonprofit corporation that provides primary and preventive health care services to residents within the Texas counties of Maverick, Kinney and Val Verde.
During his time with United Medical Centers, he oversaw a staff of 330 full-time employees, expanded the program’s annual budget from $1 million to $28 million, and built and operated eleven service sites in the southwest Texas tri-county area. He also secured and retained designation for the organization as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) for providing comprehensive services on a sliding fee scale to underserved areas, as well as accreditation from The Joint Commission (TJC) for demonstrating a commitment to continuously improving patient care.
Prior to that role, he served as Executive Director for La Coalicion, a community organization that provided social services to predominantly low-income Hispanic farmworkers of the Watsonville, CA area, and as a Manpower Director of the Monterey County Anti-Poverty Coordinating Council, a program that assisted individuals with employment development and placement services.
Born in Eagle Pass, TX, Mr. Kypuros earned his degree from Texas State University and received continued education from the University of California, Yale University and Trinity University. He continues to reside in Eagle Pass with his wife, daughters and grandchildren, and owns and operates a small billboard advertising business.
