Andrew Yuan

Andrew Yuan is a research intern at SpringGem Weather Information. Andrew previously worked as an Atlas Fellow, a highly selective fellowship to help talented high schoolers develop big-picture thinking about science, philosophy, and the future. The fellowship consists of a $50K scholarship and a fully-funded summer program in Silicon Valley. Andrew also interned at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory as part of the ASPIRE program. There, they conducted research on how climate change affects migration and used machine learning to forecast future migration patterns. Prior to that, they were a research intern at Math4All and at SpringGem Weather Information, where they analyzed how to use variations NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) in hyperspectral drone images to detect road ice. Andrew co-authored a paper presented at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) 2020 Annual Meeting while at SpringGem. Andrew is currently mentored by Dr. Menglin Jin, visiting associate professor at UMD.

Andrew Yuan's educational career has been focused on science, math, and computer science. Andrew began in a magnet program at Roberto Clemente Middle School and continued their education at Poolesville High School, where they earned their high school diploma.
