Richard Martyr

Prior to teaching at Longmont High School, Dr. Richard Martyr dedicated his career in the conservation and youth travel fields to building, managing and leading complex organizations such as the National Audubon Society and American Youth Hostels. He served as Senior Vice President of the National Audubon Society and Executive Director of American Youth Hostels. Dick obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Zoology in 1969 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1974.

Dick was an accomplished science teacher and served as the Science Department Chair at Longmont High School for eleven of thirteen years, retiring in 2014. He was the 2009 winner of the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley’s Spotlight Award for excellence in teaching. Continuing his dedication to the education of students in St. Vrain, Dick was elected to the Board of Education in 2015.
