Shane K. Sarver

Shane K. Sarver has been a faculty staff member in Biology at Black Hills State University (BHSU) since 1996. As the recently appointed Chief Research Officer, he will oversee the BHSU’s research agenda and grow research investment by promoting new research programs, encouraging major grant and center proposals, and promoting translational research and technology transfer. This new position at BHSU provides guidance and vision in leading research enhancement efforts and fostering excellence in research and scholarship across all disciplines.

During his time at BHSU, Dr. Sarver has been the Principal Investigator on more than a million dollars’ worth of extramurally funded projects. His accomplishments include establishing the Center for the Conservation of Biological Resources (CCBR) and the Western South Dakota DNA Core Facility (WestCore), and he continues to serve as the Director of both facilities.

Dr. Sarver received his B.S. from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, his M.S. from Humboldt State University, and his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. He had postdoctoral appointments at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences and the University of South Carolina, and he was a Visiting Scientist at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole.
