Venkat Sumantran

Dr. Venkat Sumantran is an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Switch Mobility. He is currently Chairman of Celeris Technologies and a board member of several organisations in the automotive, aviation, electronics and mobility industries. With over 35 years of board and sector experience, Dr. Sumantran’s previous roles include Executive Vice Chairman of Hinduja Automotive and Vice Chairman of Ashok Leyland Ltd and, before this, CEO of Tata Motors’ car business and a member of the Board of Directors of Tata Motors Ltd. Dr Sumantran also spent 16 years at General Motors, the latter of these as Director of Advanced Engineering at GM-Europe.

Dr. Sumantran has a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and a Master’s degree in Management of Technology. He is a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE) and a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineers. He is the co-author of Faster, Smarter Greener: The Future of the Car and Urban Mobility published by the MIT Press in 2017.
