Marc J. Shapiro

Houston-born THI Board member Marc Shapiro made his career in banking. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Harvard and an MBA from Stanford Business School, Marc went to work for Texas Commerce Bank, of which he became Chief Financial Officer in 1977. After J.P. Morgan Chase acquired the bank in 1989, Marc was promoted to Chief Executive Officer for the bank in the state of Texas. Then, in 1997, he was made J.P. Morgan Chase’s Vice Chairman for Finance and Risk Management and moved to New York for the job. In 2003, Marc returned to Houston, where he served as Non-Executive Chairman of Chase Bank of Texas for the next 14 years. Today, Marc is a Director of The Mexico Fund and Cadence Bank.

Marc has long served the community in various volunteer roles. These have included Chairman of the Houston United Way Campaign, Chairman of the Greater Houston Partnership, founding Chairman of the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, and member of Rice University’s Board of Trustees. Currently, Marc is Chairman of the Board of Advisors for the university’s James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy.
