Andrew Sherry is the Principal at Communications Partners. Most recently, he served as the Vice President of Communications at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
He has been focused on digital publishing and communications for 15 years. He spent the first half of his career as a journalist based in Hong Kong, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, Nicosia, and Paris, first for news agency AFP then Dow Jones. Memorable assignments included the opening of Vietnam, the fall of Indonesia’s Suharto, and working with reporter Nate Thayer on the first interview since the 1970s with Cambodian dictator Pol Pot.
Following his news instincts, Sherry left journalism in 1999 to work full-time on the Internet. He helped launch a company that deployed broadband Internet and web portals to hotels in 14 cities and nine countries.
Returning to the United States, he became director of online ventures at USA TODAY and built the brand’s profitable online travel vertical, before managing news coverage for the 2004 elections.
In late 2005, he moved to another startup, The Center for American Progress, to develop the organization’s online communications infrastructure. CAP became one of the country’s most influential think tanks, and had 5 million unique visitors a month by the time Sherry moved to the Knight Foundation six years later.
A native of Washington, D.C., Sherry is a graduate of Haverford College.
