Owen Winter

Owen Winter is a Political Data Scientist at The Economist since February 2024, focusing on polling aggregators and predictive models while contributing to political data journalism. As a co-founder and spokesperson for Make Votes Matter, Owen has played a crucial role in advocating for Proportional Representation in the House of Commons, beginning a petition that garnered 240,000 signatures. Previous experience includes working as a Senior Analyst at Stack Data Strategy, where Owen specialized in Election Advisory and Geographic Modelling, and conducting research for Labour for a New Democracy. Owen also interned at the City of Amsterdam on an AI project for road condition monitoring and served on the council of the Electoral Reform Society. Educational achievements include a BA in History and Politics from the University of Oxford, an MRes in Advanced Quantitative Methods from the University of Bristol, and an MS in Information Studies with a focus on Data Science from the University of Amsterdam.
