Matthias Egger

Matthias Egger is an experienced environmental scientist currently serving as the Director of Environmental and Social Affairs at The Ocean Cleanup since February 2018, where responsibilities have included roles as Head of Environmental and Social Affairs, Lead Ocean Field Scientist, and Ocean Plastic Researcher. In addition, Matthias Egger founded Egger Research and Consulting GmbH in March 2022 and acts as a Senior Environmental Scientist. Previous academic positions include Postdoctoral Researcher at Aarhus University and Utrecht University, where a Ph.D. in Marine Biogeochemistry was obtained. Education credentials include a Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from ETH Zürich, alongside a Matura in Mathematics and Physics from Gymnasium St. Antonius Appenzell.
