Mark Bohannon is the current Director at The United States Information Technology Office. Prior to this, they served as the General Counsel & SVP Public Policy for the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) from July 2000 to September 2010. In this role, Bohannon was responsible for the global legal and public policy agenda for the trade association of leading software and electronic content companies. Mark was also recognized as a policy expert and public spokesperson on globalization, intellectual property protection, strategic trends in the IT industry, privacy and security, competition & antitrust, trade and market access barriers. Bohannon also served as Chairman and Executive Committee member of USITO, the voice of the US high tech industry in Beijing, China.
From January 1993 to June 2000, Bohannon served as Chief Counsel for Technology and Counsellor to the Under Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In this role, they were responsible for providing legal counsel on technology transfer issues and export controls. Mark also advised the Under Secretary on international economic policy matters.
Bohannon began their career in January 1989 as the Director of Strategic Planning for the Democratic National Committee (DNC). In this role, they were responsible for developing and implementing the DNC's strategic plan. Mark also served as the Director of Election Analysis Planning during their time at the DNC.
Mark Bohannon attended The George Washington University Law School, where they obtained their J.D. Mark also attended Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, where they obtained their B.S.F.S. in International Economics. Before that, they attended Stephen F. Austin High School.
