Richard Hirsch joined his family business, Hirsch’s Homestores, in 1998 when they opened their first Superstore in Durban. He started working in the warehouse and swiftly rose through the ranks until being appointed Branch Manager of the store. Thereafter, he took up the position of Regional Manager for KZN, and in 2010 was appointed the Managing Director of the family business that started in 1979. This family owned company has grown into the largest independently owned appliance retailer in South Africa with 18 stores around South Africa and almost 2000 team members.
Richard has a philosophy of lifelong learning and has studied at UCT, Harvard, North Western/Kellogg and Oxford University. He has been involved with the Clare Ellis Brown School, an inner city school of Durban for under privileged children since 2000 as well as the Vulingqondo Literacy Centre. He is a passionate YPO-er and is Chapter Chair of the Durban chapter 2016/17.
