Jay Mebane

Jay Mebane serves as Fire Chief for the Town of Chapel Hill, NC, since July 2023, following nearly 16 years in various roles, including Fire Chief, Inspections Director, and Fire Marshal at the City of Burlington, NC. Mebane's extensive experience encompasses fire inspections, investigations, code consultation, and fire safety education. Educational credentials include a Master of Public Affairs from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Bachelor's in Fire & Emergency Services Administration from Fayetteville State University, and an Associate degree in Fire Protection Technology from Durham Technical Community College, alongside completion of the Fire Service Executive Development Institute program.
