Wei-Ying

Wei-Ying Ma is a distinguished academic and industry leader in artificial intelligence, currently serving as Chair Professor and Chief Scientist at Tsinghua University since October 2020, where co-founded the AI Industry Research initiative. Previously, Wei-Ying Ma was Vice President and Head of AI Lab at ByteDance from February 2017 to August 2020, successfully founding the lab and recruiting over 300 researchers across multiple global locations. Wei-Ying Ma's earlier career includes significant roles at Microsoft Research Asia from April 2001 to February 2017, overseeing multiple research groups and leading the development of Microsoft Academic Search, and as a Member of Technical Staff at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories from June 1997 to April 2001, contributing to multimedia analysis and content delivery systems. Wei-Ying Ma holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, along with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University.
