Job description

About Tunelark

Our long-term vision is to empower educators to enrich lives and create opportunities on a global scale. We believe in the power of teacher-driven instruction and the importance of building tools that give teachers superpowers instead of trying to replace them with technology.

Tunelark's mission is to empower educators to make music education more fun, effective, and accessible. We use technology (like our game-based adaptive digital curriculum) to help educators teach more students more effectively, making music education more affordable and high-quality in the process.

Our go-to-market offering is a video chat lesson service with highly vetted instructors who are trained to help students fall in love with music and sharpen their skills with a mix of traditional pedagogical techniques as well as digital tools designed to maximize learning and enjoyment of music in between lessons.

About the Senior Product Designer

If we do say so ourselves, this will be a truly fun and challenging job. Our first design hire will be responsible for leading design at Tunelark, which will involve crafting the UX and visual design of our entire product. Our product roadmap is filled with interesting projects aimed at empowering teachers and reinventing the role of technology in music education. We’re looking for an experienced, creative thinker who can help us realize our ideas — plus challenge and expand on them.

The senior product designer will be an individual contributor as well as a product leader. Responsibilities will include gathering user requirements, designing and prototyping features in Figma, incorporating feedback from colleagues, and iterating on designs to bring clarity to our team and delight to our users.

You will work closely with the CEO, engineering leaders, and QA engineer to document plans and ensure that features are implemented according to your designs. This is a multi-faceted role with a ton of room to define how Tunelark does product and design now and into the future. It does have a lot of responsibility, but also a lot of influence and space to grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather and evaluate user requirements
  • Create/update/manage Tunelark’s design system
  • Lead and run discovery for new feature ideas
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high fidelity mockups in Figma
  • Support our Software Architect and QA Engineer in creating Github tickets that clarify exactly how each feature should look and work
  • Lead the design of world-class digital teaching tools. Envision new educational games that can help students learn foundational music skills more effectively on their own or in-between lessons.
  • Lead the design of new features aimed at handling the logistics of matching students with teachers, scheduling lessons, charging for lessons, and managing a studio of students
  • Work with the CEO to map out and execute a product roadmap designed to take the company’s offering to the next level

What are the requirements of this position?

  • Expert-level Figma design and prototyping skills
  • Excellent listening, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Strong English writing skills
  • Solid remote work and time management skills
  • A portfolio of design projects showcasing your visual design skills as well as your ability to design experiences that are simple and intuitive
  • Ability to deliver and receive constructive feedback gracefully
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Growth mindset
  • Willingness to cultivate a team environment built on respect, kindness, and good communication
  • A love of music is required. Music-playing skills are a plus, but not required.

Logistics

  • 100% remote team
  • Salaried W2 position
  • Free health insurance

Reasons to Work With Us

  • Help provide work to music instructors who were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Discount on music lessons for you and your immediate family members
  • Significant influence over our product, processes, vision, team dynamics, and more. We are, after all, a small team with the ability and drive to grow our business even further and we’re looking for somebody who shares that mindset and can see the future we’re building.

Compensation

  • $90,000 - $120,000 in cash compensation
  • $75,000 - $400,000 in equity compensation (based on the seed round valuation, so lots of upside potential if we grow 10-100x)
